Oakland Athletics lose to San Diego Padres 1-2 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics defeated by San Diego Padres 1-2 in the third and final game of their three match regular series encounter on Sunday, June 17 at O.co Coliseum in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The A’s played poorly and never tried to bounce back in the game despite their strong pitching.
They only scored one run in the last stages of the game and remained in one run deficit which eventually proved lethal for the A’s as they fell short without showing any fighting spirit.
Padres remained in control from start of the game kept the A’s under pressure for a total of nine innings.
Winning the last game of the series in style, the Padres however, could not save the series. They had already lost it when the A’s offence handed them two consecutive defeats.
After winning the game, the Padres manager Bud Black came out in the media and told several reporters about the different aspects of his team’s combined win.
He was pleased to see his starting pitcher Clayton Richard’s performance. Richard played exceptionally well and tossed 7.2 innings and received only five hits. His over seven scoreless innings’ proved eventual for the Padres as they finished the game in
style.
"The command was definitely there and (catcher Nick Hundley) did the best job since we've been together, When that's taken care of you don't have to worry about what pitch to throw. It takes a lot of pressure off." Richard said.
Later Black also said with confidence for Richard, "He threw a great game, He mixed in enough sliders, change (and) curveballs to keep them honest. But it was all about the fastball in good spots, throwing strikes and working fast."
Oakland manager Bob Melvin looked also impressed with Richard’s pitching when he spoke to the media, "(Richard's) ball was running quite a bit, whether it was cutting or running, He made good pitches. Early on it was tough to see good swings.”
In the meanwhile, despite the Padres have won the last game of the series, they are still in struggling phase with poor 24-43 win loss and to qualify for the post season, they must reach at-least .500 winning percentage.
