Oakland Athletics lose to Texas Rangers 4-5 – MLB Recap
Oakland Athletics lost to Texas Rangers 4-5 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Monday, September 24 at Rangers Ballpark in Texas.
"This guy doesn't think about anything but doing what he has to do for his team, and he certainly came up big for us, Come up in that situation with the bases loaded and not try to do anything but make hard contact, and he did. Just can't say enough about Adrian Beltre," Texas manager Ron Washington said.
Oakland’s entire roster played under pressure and lost the game. Their batters and hitters disappointed with the level of performance they showed in the first game of the series.
"It's one game. We have to bounce back. We did that in both Detroit and New York. We lost some tough ones and bounced back, It would have been nice to start off with a win in the series, but you have to move on from it," A’s manager Bob Melvin said.
This game was also important for the Athletics and Rangers as both teams are in the hunt for post season qualification. Oakland and Rangers have little difference in their winning percentage while both teams can also go through on Wild Card criteria.
Athletics’ shortstop Stephen Drew smashed only one hit but could not score any on his four at-bats with lame slugging percentage of .385.
Designated Jonny Gomes could not score on his three at-bats while his slugging percentage also remained poor at .485.
Athletics’ pitchers also played quite poor and disappointed with their performances. From starting pitcher to reliever, everyone was hammered with big hits by the Rangers' offensive batters.
Dan Straily pitched 6.2 innings and was hammered with two runs and five hits along with a homer. He struck-out eight but overall he pitched way-ward and lost the game for the Athletics.
Relief pitcher Pat Neshek pitched 0.1 innings and received one run and one hit along with a homer on his 1.53 ERA.
Tyson Ross also played under pressure and could not save the game for his team. He was hammered with three hits on his blistering 6.50 ERA.
