Oakland Athletics lose to Texas Rangers 7-9 – MLB Recap
Oakland Athletics lose the Texas Rangers 7-9 in the final and fourth game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, September 27 at Rangers Ballpark in Texas.
"Never doubted it, The worse we were looking for was a split. They can also play, and we got what we wanted," manager Ron Washington said of his team's performance.
Oakland played under pressure and could not handle it as they eventually lost the game with a two-run deficit.
Athletics’ upfront rotation played poorly and was hammered with big hits by the Rangers’ talented batting prowess.
"We didn't look good early,” A's manager Bob Melvin said.
Starter Travis Blackley pitched a short spell of single inning and was hammered with five runs along with five hits. Overall giving five earned runs, he was also hit with two home-runs on his 3.91 ERA.
He pitched way-ward and could not show his class. Though Blackley has been playing with enormous focus since the beginning of the 2012 Major League Baseball season, but in this particular game, his consistency was challenged by the Rangers’ talented hitters who did not show any respect and played him freely.
“I felt pretty good when I threw in the bullpen before the game. When I get out there, the ball is just not going where I want it, I'm just not getting it down. I'm not throwing my off-speed pitches for strikes and falling behind. Even when my pitches did get down, they found holes," Blackley said on his performance and also explained to the media about his team’s overall effort.
Along with Blackley, the other two Athletics main pitchers also disappointed with their poor pitching.
Relief pitcher Jim Miller pitched two innings and received two runs and four hits. He struck-out two while his ERA remained at 2.64. His pitching somewhat gave some slight relief to the Athletics but overall he also could not handle the pressure and lost the game for his team.
Closer Jeremy Accardo pitched two innings and he also allowed two runs and four hits on his 4.82 ERA which was not enough for the Athletics to oust the Rangers.
