Oakland Athletics lose to Toronto Blue Jays 5-6 – MLB Update
The Oakland Athletics lost to Toronto Blue Jays 5-6 in the fourth and last game of their four-match regular series encounter on Sunday, August 5 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland.
Designated-hitter Edwin Encarnacion smashed a homer in the fourth innings and gave the Blue Jays a one-run advantage which proved decisive in the end.
“We have been struggling the past couple of games, That homer gave everybody a little more emotion and everybody started hitting better," Encarnacion said with confidence and explained about his performance.
Later Blue Jays’ manager John Farrell said, “We put together a good game, We were able to exploit the speed that both guys have at the top.”
Though both team’s starters played well and scored some vital runs but overall the Blue Jays' hitters remained more consistent on the plate as they ease past the Athletics with style.
Left fielder Rajai Davis scored two runs on two hits while his slugging percentage remained consistent at .416.
Centre fielder Anthony Gose also played well and made two runs on two hits while he also added one RBI in the Blue Jays total score tally.
"I wish I could say we practiced that, but we didn't, Rajai was on the move and I should have taken the pitch and let him steal a base, but I put the bunt down and heads up baserunning made things happen," Gose said.
Despite Athletics batters played relatively well but their pitchers never showed any fighting spirit and lost in the end.
"A couple of plays here and there cost us," A's manager Bob Melvin said.
Tommy Milone allowed six runs and nine hits while he also gave six earned runs on 3.91 ERA.
He pitched six innings and never looked comfortable on the mound as he also lost his composure and looked tired in his spell.
On the other hand, the Blue Jays pitchers played terrifically and supported their team at crucial stages of play.
Especially starter Aaron Laffey did well in his six innings as he allowed just four runs and four hits. Giving his team a decent win, his ERA was also remained consistent at 4.39.
