Oakland Athletics’ new hitting coach Chili Davis will prove a trump card – MLB Special
A few days ago the Oakland Athletics chose hitting coach Chili Davis for their franchise, as the baseball media started to come up with their own analysis.
Having understood Chili’s baseball background and professional playing experience, they not only highlighted the important factors which will come automatically with the presence of Chili Davis but the American media also significantly suggested some very
good points and whom he should take into consideration and work closely with in the Athletics’ management.
For many, the news of Chili Davis becoming Athletics’ new hitting coach did not create extra thrill as they already knew when head coach and manager Bob Melvin said last week in the annual GMs meeting in Milwaukee. His other management is considering bringing
in a new coach to improve the roster’s hitting capabilities. The first guess of many was Chili Davis and it’s revealed that he will be seeing the Athletics’ pitchers in the upcoming Major League Baseball season.
After the official announcement on Saturday that Chili is coming in the Athletics’ franchise as hitting coach, the media turned their attention towards him and started pouring on the questions. Later, Chili Davis himself came out in the media and said that
he has come just to reply to all the questions with renewed energy to start a new career in baseball coaching.
He said, “I do understand this is a business. Bobby and I have been friends for a very long time, I feel very comfortable having him as the guy that's running the show on the field. It's good to know you're working for someone you're familiar with, who's
a friend and he has your back and you have his back also.”
After this statement, people started objecting and asked that why he is putting so much emphasis on the relationship of his old friend instead focusing on the new job.
Davis replied with great confidence and stated that he is thoroughly excited about the job but at the same time working with an old buddy will certainly enhance the pleasure of coaching young players.
The Athletics’ have played a very good card here. In order to achieve good results for their team in the near future, they have joined forces of two old friends and Major League players as top coaches in the same franchise that will eventually benefit the
Athletics in many ways.
Before his appointment as new hitting coach, the media rumoured many stories about the offseason connection of the A's with Mike Aldrete and Mark McGwire as possible new hitting coaches. However, after both denied any link and decided to stay with the St.
Louis Cardinals, the door opened for Davis and later he was hired in Bob Melvin’s coaching staff with top most priority of coaching players how to hit well and how to create results from their individual hard work.
Davis, who has spent almost 19 years in Major League Baseball, knows that every aspect of the game especially from the batting point of view. His playing days might differentiate from today’s fast ball play but the techniques are still very much similar
and he would not face any serious trouble coaching Oakland Athletics’ players.
It will be very interesting to see how the arrival of Chili Davis in the Athletics will make an impact for the struggling team.
