Oakland Athletics optimistic to sign free agent Cody Ross – MLB News
Since the Major League’s annual winter meeting in Milwaukee has concluded, the Oakland Athletics seem positive and looking to be on the right track.
Oakland’s top management has considered changing some roster rotation and bringing new players in the franchise, is now looking like it will be happening.
Some recent reports have published in the media that the Oakland Athletics are looking to add free agent Cody Ross in their 40-man roster in order to strengthen their team’s position in the League.
A former Detroit Tigers player and a World Series winner, who has also played in the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cincinnati Reds, Florida Marlins and San Francisco Giants, is considered one of the best talents in the big league. His potential arrival in the Athletics
franchise will certainly boost their chances of winning more games next year.
Inside sources have also claimed that the Athletics’ management is in serious talks with Cody Ross and his agent and are offering him a potential contract. Some say if these potential talks could result in a possible deal, then that will likely be only a
one year contract.
The Athletics are looking to add a good player in the outfield and that is why they are showing desperation to sign Cody Ross who has almost seven years of professional playing experience in the out-field position. While currently they have only Michael
Taylor, Collin Cowgill and Josh Reddick as out-fielders which are not enough to build a winning unit.
Ross’ previous experience in the League will also help the Athletics to achieve some consistency in their performance. Last season, Oakland lost too many games and the inclusion of some more experienced players in the franchise will certainly help them in
the future.
As out-fielder, Ross played the last season with full thrust achieving a .240 hitting average along with 14 home-runs, 52 RBIs and .325 OBP. While his career average of .261 along with 100 homers, 371 RBIs and .323 OBP also makes him a desired player in
the 2011 free agency market. His last season with the San Francisco Giants was tremendous as he achieved appreciation from various baseball experts.
