Oakland Athletics outdo Baltimore Orioles 6-1 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Baltimore Orioles 6-1 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, July 28 at Oriole Park in Baltimore.
A’s played aggressive from start of the game and proved too good for the Orioles as they gave them a thumping in the second straight game of the series.
Athletics did well against the dire pitching of their opponents and eventually power past the Orioles with style.
Oakland's batting and pitching line-up played offensively with more aggression than their opponents and won in the end.
“Pitching's been our strength all year, We've come around offensively here recently. Certainly, the last month's indicative because of our record, but the pitching's been there all year," A’s manager Bob Melvin said later in the game and explained about his team’s tremendous effort.
On the other hand, the Orioles, who had also lost the previous game against the A’s, again fell short with some five runs and lost with bitter humiliation.
Not only their batting line-up, but their starting rotation were also unable to impress and was hammered with big hits.
"They're trying. It's just not happening, I see them trying firsthand. It's not for lack of effort or lack of attention to what's causing it. When they do hit the ball on the button and it's right at somebody, it's frustrating. But if they keep going it will happen. It's not like it hasn't happened all year," Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter said on his team’s defeat.
Orioles’ starter Tommy Hunter allowed five runs and seven hits. He also gave five earned runs along with two homers on his 5.72 ERA.
Later closer Miguel Socolovich was also hammered with two hits and gave one run in his 2.2 innings. He could have played better but with his increasing 9.00 ERA, he certainly lost the valour in his fast pitching and proved disastrous for the Orioles.
The A’s pitchers however, played much better and rattled their opponents with force.
Athletics’ veteran starting pitcher Bartolo Colon pitched 5.2 innings and finished scoreless. He allowed seven hits but his overall performance remained consistent with 3.78 ERA.
