Oakland Athletics outperformed by Baltimore Orioles 1-6 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics’ outperformed by the Baltimore Orioles 1-6 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, July 29 at Oriole Park in Baltimore.
Athletics’ pitchers looked tired and hammered with total six runs. They did not perform well and could not save the game in the end.
Starter Travis Blackley tossed five innings and allowed five runs and six hits. He also allowed five earned runs along with one homer on his 3.15 ERA.
"Just couldn't seem to find a groove, had no rhythm, It was just inconsistency with my motion. Sometimes I'd stay through the pitch really well, and other times I'd fall off toward third." It was kind of a rough one, Didn't take advantage of the counts when
I was ahead, and fell behind more than I'd like. I had four walks today, that's not like me," Blackley said.
“This was just kind of an off day for him, Looked like he was struggling with his command a little bit, fighting himself some, mechanically," manager Bob Melvin said for his starter.
Blakely’s teammate and closer Jim Miller also allowed two hits and one run. He allowed one earned run and smashed with a homer on his 2.23 ERA.
Though the pitchers’ performance was way too intolerable in the eyes of team manager Bob Melvin but the A’s hitters also remained under pressure and could not save the game for their team.
Second baseman Jemile Weeks was the only player who seemed little sharp in the field as he scored the only run for the Athletics.
A’s rest of the hitters were just unable to maintain the momentum and could not play their natural game.
On the other hand, the Orioles played aggressively and won in the end. Though they had lost the series, but still this victory was a healthy and more boosting sign for their entire roster.
Wei-Yin Chen pitched solid 5.2 innings and allowed just one run and three hits while he gave no earned on his 3.65 ERA as he retired twelve potential hitters of A’s. His pitching certainly was one of the winning factors for his team while the Orioles are
now much confident ahead of their tough series against the New York Yankees.
