Oakland Athletics outshine New York Yankees 2-1 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics beat the New York Yankees 2-1 in the third game of their four-match regular series encounter on Saturday, July 21 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland.
With this win, the A’s also won the series 3-0 with one game to spare which will be played on Sunday.
A’s’ played better than the Yankees and won in the end with a one run advantage.
This was fourth straight victory of Athletics, who now certainly think that their chances of getting into post season seem quite obvious.
The Yankees on the other hand, are experiencing one of the worst times since they have entered into the second half of the regular season. They have suffered three consecutive defeats from the A’s and they way Yankees are playing in this series, they certainly can be defeated with a clean sweep.
In Saturday’s game, Oakland's starter Jarrod Parker played brilliantly and earned a great victory for his team. He pitched eight innings and received only one run and one earned run on five hits.
Parker struck-out five as his ERA remained consistent at 3.00.
Even Yankees' manager Joe Girardi said of Parker, “Great changeup. Really good changeup, He can throw it any time; We saw some 3-2 that he threw for strikes, he ended up walking [Curtis Granderson] on one. They've thrown strikes, that's the big thing. They haven't walked people."
Along with pitchers, the Athletics’ hitters also played well and proved wonderful for their team.
Third baseman Brandon Inge played superbly as his eight inning’s homer decided the final result of the game in the favour of his team.
“Our offense, we're getting a lot of credit for the walk-offs everything. The part of our team that's getting overlooked a little bit is absolutely our pitching staff, They have been incredible. They've been really, the glue that's held us together through this whole thing. It's amazing that they're doing such a good job and kind of flying under the radar," Inge said.
Meanwhile, Yankees' starter Phil Hughes played well and but he could not save the game for his team as he was hit with two runs in his 7.2 innings spell.
