Oakland Athletics pounce on Texas Rangers - Matt Harrison loses focus again
Matt Harrison faced the same problems he did last time around, when he went up against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rangers Ballpark. Last time around, the hurler threw three innings before being relieved.
This time around he was at the Overstock.com Coliseum, in Oakland, facing off against the Athletics. Unfortunately for him, he could not last two innings, as he went for four runs.
He conceded four runs in six hits, giving away two walks, to add additional pain to his earning runs average, which climbed to 4.59. The hurler was ‘very disappointed’ about the situation that had come up and was open about his predicament.
In the last three games, the ball thrower has gone 0–3, earning a runs average of 11.23 in the duration.
"I just started the same way as the last game", Harrison said. "I felt good warming up and felt good in my last [between starts] bullpen. I just wasn't able to keep the ball down. I got out of my mechanics, didn't stay focused and started missing over the
middle of the plate".
He needed to pitch low but after reviewing the videos of his throws, he found himself pitching up. His sinkers and changeups kept on going up and that presented one of the major problems of the day.
David Bush relieved the ace and he allowed two more runs to the A’s, losing the score line chase, as the hosts grabbed an important 7–2 win over the Rangers. Harrison had a similar outing against the Toronto Blue Jays, as he allowed seven runs off eight
hits in three innings.
"I just need to go back and keep it simple", Harrison said. "Don't think about too much or dwell on what's happened the past two starts. I need to go back to where I was in Spring Training and trust my stuff. I'm not trusting my stuff".
Whether the pitcher goes back to being a top ace or not, there are rumours spreading about Brandon Webb, Tommy Hunter, and, Scott Feldman, might get the call if the maestro fails to improve in his next outing.
