Oakland Athletics’ right-hander Andrew Carignan recovering from elbow surgery – MLB Update
Oakland Athletics' right-handed closing pitcher Andrew Carignan is recovering from Tommy John surgery quite fast.
The reliever also shows optimism that he is half way through from his rehabilitation process after a serious elbow surgery.
“Everything feels great, I've talked to enough people and kind of been around enough, so I kind of know what to expect, and I haven't had any surprises. So far, so good. I'm on schedule as far as I know," said Carignan, who underwent the operation on June 19.
Carignan spoke to reporters during a charity support program over the weekend in Connecticut as he hoped for a good 2013 Major League Baseball season for his potential future.
His trainers are putting everything to prepare him for the next season. He is currently throwing from 90 feet and making progress with a rapid pace.
He was injured during the 2012 Major League Baseball season and had to go for surgery. In his first major year in MLB, he remained consistent with 4.66 ERA as he also struck-out eight batters.
This is a healthy sign that Carignan is making good progress on the mound. His potential comeback will make Athletics more powerful in the coming season.
Experts and team doctors believe that Carignan will be a good addition if he recovers before Spring Training.
Meanwhile, the Athletics have already made several changes to build up a good roster which will ensure once again a good season.
They added two Minor Leaguers Grant Green and Michael Ynoa in their 2013 Major League Baseball 40-man roster.
“Grant has adjusted well to everything we've asked of him over the last two seasons, He continues to excel offensively and will certainly receive consideration in spring training as we make decisions in the infield," assistant general manager David Forst said in an e-mail.
Forst added, “Michael took a big step last year as he remained healthy and pitched outside of Arizona, We're excited about his progress since surgery.”
Last year, the Athletics outplayed many and achieved a post-season spot and are now roaring to repeat that extraordinary performance.
