Oakland Athletics rout Tampa Bay Rays 4-2 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 4-2 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, August 25 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
Athletics’ played as one unit throughout the game and won in the end. They never let the Rays’ dominate them and eventually rattled them with a decent hammering.
With this win, the Athletics also won the series 2-1.
Athletics' entire batting line-up played well and earned a decent victory as they battled it out with the Rays.
"I give Oakland a lot of credit, You can't take anything away from what they're doing. They're playing good baseball. They're playing with a lot of energy so I give them credit. But we have to be better," Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon said.
Centre fielder Coco Crisp scored one run on three hits. He remained calm on the plate during his four at-bats while his slugging percentage also stayed consistent at .401.
Shortstop Stephen Drew also did well with the bat as he scored one run and smashed one hit on his four at-bats. He was consistent with his hitting as his slugging percentage remained at .294.
Designated hitter Seth Smith batted four times and scored one run and smashed one hit for the Athletics while his slugging percentage remained consistent at .430.
Right fielder Josh Reddick also performed wonderfully for the Athletics and earned a great victory for his team. He played intelligently on his four at-bats as he smashed three hits on his .484 slugging percentage.
"These guys were ahead of us, so to get them was obviously a big series for us, and to go into Cleveland with a good start on this road trip, we just gotta keep doing it throughout September, We know it's going to be a tough month with a lot of travel, but we're going to grind through it and keep going," Josh Reddick said.
Along with batters, Athletics’ pitchers also played wonderfully and proved helpful for their team in their decisive victory over the Rays.
Starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy pitched seven innings and received two runs and four hits on his 3.12 ERA. He struck-out seven and proved one of the winning factors for the Athletics.
