Oakland Athletics shatter Baltimore Orioles 14-9 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics shattered the Baltimore Orioles 14-9 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Thursday, July 27 at Oriole Park in Baltimore.
Athletics’ proved their valour and left the Orioles’ home field with pride. They kept the Orioles under pressure during the entire game and never gave any loop-holes which could have harmed the Athletics in a big way.
Oakland led early in the first inning with four runs whereas the Orioles’ also played aggressive from start of play as they quickly answered the A’s big plays on which they scored four significant runs.
Later in the third inning, the Orioles added another score and decreased the A’s lead to two runs. While in the fifth inning, Baltimore added four runs and somewhat made their position strong but the A’s bounced back in style as they scored nine runs in their later four innings and won in style.
"It was like a heavyweight fight. Both teams just battled. It was one of the better games I've seen, Of course you want to be on the winning end of that because of how much you put into it," Athletics' manager Bob Melvin said on his team’s tremendous combined effort which earned them a decent welcome victory.
Manager Bob Melvin added and further explained some aspects of his team’s big win, "That was a heavyweight fight. That might have been, as far as games go, both teams fighting that hard, one of the better games I've ever seen, actually. I think you have that consistent fight at the end of games, You can take that energy that confidence in the late innings, when you're down."
Centre fielder Coco Crisp played extremely well and scored two runs and two RBIs with two hits. He remained calm on the plate on his five at-bats along with his superb consistent slugging percentage of .368.
A’s closing pitcher Jerry Blevins pitched the all important last inning and proved his valour. He did not allow any run and maintained his 2.34 ERA and stood against the aggressive Orioles’ batting line-up.
