Oakland Athletics shock Texas Rangers with 12-5 hammering – MLB Recap
Oakland Athletics defeated the Texas Rangers with 12-5 hammering in the last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, October 3 at O.co Coliseum.
"We knew this is a beast of a team we would have to beat, to be able to beat them three games in a row and win the division on top of it, really it's a magical-type thing," manager Bob Melvin said.
Athletics’ upfront batting line-up played tremendously and won in style. Their most of the batters hit hard and literally outclassed the Rangers with big force.
"Ever since Day 1 I've been here, it's been, the A's can't compete with the payroll, can't compete with this team or that team, We're better off if we're down. It just gives us the extra energy," Derek Norris said.
Centre fielder Coco Crisp scored two runs and smashed one hit along with two RBIs on his four at-bats. He batted well and maintained his slugging percentage at .418. He played aggressive on his four outings which proved one of the winning factors for the Athletics.
Stephen Drew batted four times and scored three and smashed one hit. He also contributed with his three runs while he remained consistent at .382.
First baseman Brandon Moss added one run and smashed two hits along with three RBIs. He batted four times and showed his class by maintaining his slugging percentage at .596.
Along with batters, the Athletics pitchers also played beautifully and earned a great victory for their team. They pitched well and held the Rangers with big force.
Starter A.J. Griffin pitched 2.2 innings and received five runs and seven hits on his 3.06 ERA. He showed his class and did not let the Rangers’ batters to dominate him during the entire game.
"You can have all the experience as you want but when you run into a team that's hot, experience has nothing to do with it," Texas manager Ron Washington said.
On the other hand, the Rangers’ pitchers were hammered by the Athletics' offensive batters. Especially Ryan Dempster played poorly and lost for the Rangers. He pitched three innings and received five runs on six hits as his ERA also rose to 5.09.
