Oakland Athletics sign free-agent Hiroyuki Nakajima – MLB Update
Oakland Athletics have signed free agent shortstop Japanese international Hiroyuki Nakajima to a two-year deal. The Athletics are currently enjoying their offseason after playing a wonderful 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Athletics entire roster proved their valour and headed into post season. Meanwhile, their management is now trying to focus on the next big event in the league. To add more fire power in the roster, the Athletics have signed Japanese ace shortstop Nakajima.
Nakajima agreed to a two-year $6.5 million while recently a reliable Major League source has told the media that the Athletics also hold his third season’s option for $5.5 million.
Nakajima is a good player and possesses extraordinary hitting skills as well. His arrival in the Athletics certainly will help them grow stronger in the coming seasons.
On the other hand, Athletics free agent Stephen Drew has signed with the Boston Red Sox which created several speculations for a potential offer which was rejected by Drew’s agent. Earlier news came out in the media that Drew will be re-signing with the Athletics but at last moment it was revealed that he reportedly inked a one year deal with the Boston Red Sox.
Recently Major League J.D. Drew, who is alder brother of Stephen Drew, told a renowned sports website, “The thing is, Stephen is not nearly as guarded as I am, He’s more outgoing. He may even come across that way to me because, you know, reflecting a lot of what I went through when I came out of college”
He added, “I came under a bunch of scrutiny before I even stepped into a major league uniform and I hadn’t even done anything. … I took a bunch of heat. Stephen’s benefited from some of the stuff that I went through. A lot of guys have.”
Stephen Drew last played for the Athletics and did well on the plate. He achieved consistent results and finished the offseason with .223 hitting average along seven home runs, 28 RBIs and .309 OBP.
His overall career hitting average of .265 along with 77 home runs, 349 RBIs and .328 OBP also makes a good player in the league.
