Oakland Athletics’ starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy out on DL – MLB News
The Oakland Athletics’ starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy will not be available for next 15 days as he has been put onto disabled list due to his strain right shoulder in order to restore his playing chances for rest of the Major League Baseball season.
The A’s management announced on Sunday about McCarthy’s non availability due to the latest injury he has suffered.
As soon as McCarthy was put onto DL, the top management called in right hander relief pitcher Jim Miller from Triple-A Sacramento.
"Things were getting progressively more sore and just really not recovering in between [starts]," McCarthy said. "It was at a point where I just felt it was best to shut it down and give it a little bit of rest and let it try to get itself back together.
I think everything's fine. I think it just might be really fatigued."
A's manager Bob Melvin said for McCarthy, "He's got some shoulder stiffness, and based on his history we want to be proactive, We don't want to push it to a point that potentially he's out a significant amount of time like he was last year.”
The six year veteran, McCarthy has been constantly suffering shoulder problems throughout his career. Last year as well as previous five seasons, he has battled through a painful years and now once again his future playing chances are very less with the
similar kind of injury.
Before going onto disabled list, McCarthy was playing brilliantly throughout the season.
He was carrying 2.95 healthy ERA along with 3-3 win loss record, 40 strikeouts and 1.30 WHIP before getting injured with excessive strain.
Overall McCarthy’s career ERA is also quite consistent 4.06 ERA along with 32-36 win loss record, 414 strikeouts and 1.30 OBP also makes a good role player.
His potential arrival after 15-day is very important for the A’s who are currently facing some deep troubles matching the other teams’ talents in this Major League Baseball season.
Fans and the Cardinals management both are happy that their one of the well established players came into right form early in the season, but they are also feeling quite alarm that this particular 15-day rest can harm McCarthy’s current form.
