Oakland Athletics stun New York Yankees 6-4 for second straight win – MLB Update
The Oakland Athletics stunned the New York Yankees 6-4 for the second straight win in the three-game series at Yankee Stadium in New York on Wednesday, August 24 to cement their series 2-0.
Coco Crisp blistered excellent game winning hits for the A’s dominating win in the second outing. Coco launched two homers, first to kick the game off in the first inning and second to finalise the A’s game snatching lead in the top of the tenth inning.
Crisp hammered 404-feet long one-run homer off the Yankees unsurpassed starter Carsten Charles Sabathia in the top of the first inning. Then he added an excellent three-run hit against the Rafael Soriano when the game was tied 3-all for the last two innings.
Crisp also added an RBI single in the top of the eighth inning. Crisp stretched his RBIs to 43 and home-runs to seven in the 2011 regular season.
Coco was aware of the fact he had done something extraordinary.
"They have the best players in baseball without a doubt," Crisp said. "You go every position, there's no letup. For us to come out here with our young guys and keep our composure in this intense ballpark said a lot."
Trevor Cahill utilised full strength to seize the Yankees’ bat to just two runs over his six innings. He struck-out six batters, yielded two walks and seven hits. Brian Fuentes added insult to injury with his scoreless inning. However, Grant Balfour allowed
a game tier RBI single in the eighth inning but Fautino De Los Santos worked hitless, two strike-outs one inning to write the Yankees' 50th loss.
Sabathia was bewildered when he received an early blow but he quickly stabilised himself and then worked six scoreless innings. However, he failed to maintain his brilliancy in the eighth inning and gave two RBI singles. Sabathia was looking for his eighteenth
win but he will have to wait until his next start against the Baltimore Orioles on August 29.
Although David Robertson and Mariano Rivera restricted the A’s scoreless over their inning, the reliable closer Soriano pitched loose and gave three-run homer in the crucial time.
Nick Swisher launched two home-runs and Mark Teixeira blistered one home-run. However, the Yankees still have to use this exhibition in their favour. They now will have all eyes on their batting line-up, however according to experts Phil Hughes will strive
hard to make mark in such a critical situation.
