Oakland Athletics surpass Minnesota Twins 6-3 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics surpassed the Minnesota Twins 6-3 in the first game of their three-match series on Friday, July13 at Target Field, Minnesota.
The A’s played better than the Twins’ and earned a great win.
Left-fielder Johnny Gomez played brilliantly for the A’s and proved effective in the end.
He made five RBIs and two runs on his four at-bats and won the game for the A’s.
Gomez said, "You got to swing, You just hope it's a strike, not like the first three pitches I swung at. You have to be aggressive, often."
Not only did Gomez played well but his team-mate pitcher A.J. Griffin also played tremendously and gave the Twins some tough competition.
He tossed six innings and received only three runs on eight hits. He also struck-out five batters as his ERA remained consistent at 2.63.
Griffin said, "It might not have been my best outing, I was just trying to compete after the break. It's good to get that first one."
Closer Sean Doolittle also did well with his 1.2 innings spell as he received only one hit without any run. He struck-out two as his ERA remained consistent at 2.20.
On the other hand, the Twins' starter Francisco Liriano despite playing well, remained ineffective.
He gave four runs and three earned runs on four hits. However, he struck-out 15 A’s batters as his ERA remained consistent at 4.93.
Closer Alex Burnett could have played better but he gave too many way-ward deliveries and received two runs on four hits. He also gave two earned runs as his ERA remained at 2.86.
Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire commented on his team's disappointing performance and said, "You've got to make the plays, You should have been sitting in the dugout and it ends up Gomes coming up in a big situation and got a first pitch that kind of drifted in towards him, inner-half of the plate and he put it in the seats. That's what's disappointing.”
Oakland’s side played dominant game and kept the Twins under pressure and eventually won the game with a three run advantage.
