Oakland Athletics surpass Seattle Mariners 4-2 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics defeated the Seattle Mariners 4-2 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, September 9 at Safeco Field in Seattle.
Jonny Gomes helped the A’s take control of the game with his three-run homer. Overall he batted three times and scored one run and smashed one hit along with three RBIs and a .496 slugging percentage.
"I don't think you have to do a character check on this team anymore. We got it figured out. We've gone through some adversity with injuries, some adversity with key guys getting send out or traded, issues with (Bartolo) Colon (50-game suspension for PEDs). These guys are doing a good job just keeping our heads down and going to battle with 25 guys in the clubhouse,” said Gomes.
Along with Gomes, the other Athletics' hitters also played well and earned a good win for their team.
Coco Crisp scored one run and smashed one hit. He played well on his three at-bats as he also maintained his .404 slugging percentage.
Third baseman Josh Donaldson also played well as he added one run and smashed one hit along with a RBI. He batted four times and maintained his slugging percentage at .412.
Along with batters, the Athletics' pitchers also played very well and earned a great victory for their team. They all played as one unit and managed to put in a tremendous performance..
Athletics’ pitchers held the Mariners with great determination and never gave them any loop-holes during the entire game.
Starter Tommy Milone pitched six innings and received two runs and eight hits. He received one homer and retired ten batters on his consistent 3.90 ERA.
"That's part of what he does. That's one of his strengths, making you hit your way on, He has given up his share of hits but a lot of times they're the other way," A's manager Bob Melvin said on his team’s performance which ousted the Mariners.
On the other hand, the Mariners’ pitchers played poorly and lost the game with bitter humiliation. They all pitched way-ward and lost the game with a two-run margin.
