Oakland Athletics take revenge by defeating New York Yankees 4-3 – MLB Update
The American League’s Oakland Athletics took revenge for their last night humiliating defeat as they overpowered the New York Yankees 4-3 in the second game at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, July 23 to tie the three-game series at 1-all.
It felt in the start, that Oakland would also drop this game as they have given early one run to the Yankees in the bottom of the second inning. However, their left fielder Josh Willingham launched a dazzling two-run homer off the Yankees’ starter Allan
Jones Burnett to take his team into a 2-1 leading position. Jemile Weeks scored an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to elevate it to 3-1.
The Yankees’ top slugger Nick Swisher hammered a one-run homer off the A’s starter Rich Harden in the bottom of the sixth to reduce the lead to 3-2. However, the A’s Japanese native hitter Hideki Matsui, who recently reached his 500 home-run mark, added
another to his record by taking his team into a 4-2 strong position by the end of the seventh inning.
Besides two runs, Harden did not allow any run and completed his five innings spell taking six batters over his 104 pitches to grab his second win of the season.
"It was pretty hot, but really that's what we do." Harden said. "That's really what I wanted to be aware of today is just trying to slow everything down and trying to give myself an opportunity to recover."
Breslow and Grant Balfour restricted the Yankees from getting another run over their small innings. However, their closer Andrew Bailey was about to give the game to the Yankees with his wobbly pitch that Mark Teixeira just missed from sending out of the
park.
Burnett on the other hand struggled to gain his real momentum and allowed three walks, three runs, six hits and one home-run in just over five innings. Boone Logan also allowed a single in the seventh inning. Cory Wade and David Robertson did not allow any
run.
It was a real win for the A’s as they had received a humiliating loss last night, as they scattered 17 runs and managed just seven runs. It was also the first win of the A’s against the Yankees since April 10, 2010 in New York.
