Oakland Athletics taking time to fill shortstop spot – MLB Update
The Oakland Athletics know that they have to fill some of the vacant spots in the roster before the start of the new Major League Baseball season but still their general manager Billy Beane is not rushing towards bringing another shortstop into the 40-man roster.
Currently busy in 2012 MLB annual Winter Meetings, the A’s GM still taking his time before finalising anything regarding adding a new shortstop in the roster for next season.
MLB's offseason summit is important as this platform gives all the Major League executives a potential chance to trade. However, according to sources, the Athletics are not known to trade during the offseason annual meetings.
This year as well, the Athletics are not expecting any potential trade instead their GM Beane is pushing for a more private trade before start of Spring Training.
“From a club's perspective, it can be a little bit distracting because, when you go there, you end up finding yourself being tugged in so many ways from a media standpoint, I understand the value of the winter meetings, but the work environment is not necessarily ideal," Beane said as he explained in the media.
“I feel like the hottest prom date here," he noted after the first day.
Beane is somewhat right here on his saying that he wants to remain more private regarding new trade deals with any Major League team. He added explaining that these meetings are slight open and if his franchise initiates any kind of trade, the media and nature of this very trade will public all the undisclosed matters.
Recently, when 2012 Major League Baseball season ended, some experts raised concerns regarding Athletics’ shortstop needs, Oakland's front office reacted and came out in the media and somewhat assured that the team is seriously want some good shortstop in the roster as well.
Currently the Athletics are looking for their options to install a good shortstop. Some say Clint Barmes might end up in the Athletics’ roster for next potential seasons.
Barmes last played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and finished with .229 hitting average along with eight home-runs, 45 RBIs and .272 OBP.
