Oakland Athletics thrash Boston Red Sox 4-2 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics hammered the Boston Red Sox 4-2 in third game of their three-match regular series of 2012 Major League Baseball season on Wednesday, May 2, at Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts.
The Athletics not only won this particular game, but they also took the series 2-1.
Starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy rattled the Red Sox batting line-up and proved lethal for them as well.
His six plus innings remained impossible for the Red Sox to play. He gave just one run and only five hits holding the Red Sox in the loop where they seemed almost tense to face him.
McCarthy came into the game with huge confidence as he had earlier said, "If anything, it gives you the confidence that you're not facing a team that scored a bunch of runs, When you see someone go out there, throw strike one, with good location, I think it
can give you the confidence that it can be done."
He made those comments after watching his team-mates starting pitcher Jarrod Parker playing so wonderfully against the Red Sox just one day ago where the A’s also came out victorious 5-3.
The Oakland started off well and took early lead in the fourth inning. Their one-run lead further strengthened in the bottom of the sixth with three more runs which ultimately proved decisive in the end.
Though the Red Sox tried their best to bounce back in seventh and ninth inning, but they just could not resist against the brilliant pitching of Oakland.
The real disaster came from Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez who remained hitless in four at bats.
"I think he's just tired," Boston manager Bobby Valentine said of Gonzalez. "He's played the entire time and his timing recognition of the strike zone is just a little off."
"For us to win two of three shows the resiliency of this club," A's manager Bob Melvin said.
In the meanwhile, with this particular victory, the Oakland Athletics have come closer from leading Texas Rangers in American League West with the winning percentage of .500 at 13-13 win-loss record.
