Oakland Athletics thump Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 – MLB Recap
The Oakland Athletics edge past the Tampa Bay Rays in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, July 30 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland.
A’s played aggressive from start of the game and eventually with hard thumping in the 15th inning; they received a welcome victory against the Rays.
“I can't say it was a really exciting baseball game. It was well pitched by both sides," Rays' manager Joe Maddon said on his team’s performance. "Their pitching's good and so is ours. That's probably what happened tonight."
Though the Rays’ batting prowess showed some early thrust in the sixth inning when they took a one-run advantage but soon this late move was stopped by the A’s top pitchers and with quick flashes of play, they literally handcuffed their opposing hitters while finished the game in style.
On one end, their hitters played well and on the other end, they A’s pitchers threw quite sensibly and won the game with ease.
A’s tested total six pitchers who did not let down with their performances.
They all pitched in right areas and allowed only three runs in total. They never gave any extra big loop holes and eventually rattled the Rays entire batting lineup.
“Energy level is a factor, but you can still control your mentality, and our mentality is always to keep going to that last out," Weeks said of his team’s overall performance,"We've proven it time and time again with the walk-offs. Guys are tired, but the mentality is to keep going until we win."
A.J. Griffin pitched seven innings and allowed only three runs, five hits and three earned runs while he struck-out six Rays’ potential batters on his 2.51 ERA.
While rest of the A’s starting rotation showed more energy and did not allow any run which eventually proved wonderful for them as they won in great manner.
Rays’ starter David Price on the other hand did not play well and hammered with three runs and five hits. He allowed three earned runs along with one homer on his 2.64 ERA and could not just save the game for his team.
