Oakland Athletics trade starting pitcher Tyson Ross to San Diego Padres – MLB Update
Oakland Athletics took a bold step and traded one of their star performers of 2012 Major League Baseball season Tyson Ross to San Diego Padres.
Those, who are observing every move of teams involving a trade, say that A’s move to trade Ross has many reasons. This is also to remind that this is the first trade Athletics’ have initiated after playing a wonderful past season.
Minor League first baseman A.J. Kirby-Jones has also been traded along with the A’s starter while in return, the Athletics will get a shortstop option in the next season along with options on Andy Parrino and left-hand starter Andrew Werner.
Justifying this trade, the Athletics have not said openly in the public but still some of their executives are looking at this deal as setting a greater impact on the coming future.
“We were thrilled to have Tyson, who grew up in the shadow of the Coliseum, play for his hometown team over the last three seasons, He was an outstanding ambassador for the A's on the field and in his own community during his time here," assistant general manager David Forst said in an e-mail and tried to justify this deal with the Padres.
He added, “He's definitely in the mix as we continue to survey our options."
"It would be an honor to fight for that job," Parrino said by phone
Ross finished with consistent numbers with the Athletics in 2012 season. He remained consistent at 6.50 ERA along with 2-11 win-loss, 46 strike-outs and 1.81 WHIP.
On the other hand, his two year Major League career 5.33 ERA along with 6-18 win-loss, 102 strike-outs and 1.60 WHIP also makes him a good role player in the league.
He played well with the Athletics but at middle of the season, he showed little reluctance to throw fast which proved discouraging for him.
Meanwhile, experts believe that since he will be playing for the Padres in the next season, he needs more focus to pitch in the right areas which will also ensure his long term playing chances with the new team in the Major League Baseball.
