Oakland Prospect Grant Green talks about swing adjustment
Grant Green may not be in the Major Leagues yet but he is surely eyeing a role in the coming season. The 24-year-old has been doing well in the Arizona Fall League and his contribution with the bat is giving the Phoenix Desert Dogs an edge over their opponents.
The hard hitting shortstop may have lost the recent game against the Mesa Solar Sox but his grand slam in the fifth inning against Nathan Baker provided a lot of media attention. He talked to the press about his swing on Thursday, November 10.
The Oakland 2009 13th pick prospect may well be on his way to stardom in the Major League in 2012 but he was more than willing to fill the press in on his recent work on the swing. Desert Dogs manager Todd Steverson happens to be the hitting coach
for Triple – A Sacramento, which is an affiliated club with the Oakland Athletics.
He noticed Green’s performance early on and approached the player and the club on an idea to work on the player. At the moment, Green is hitting .308 in the Arizona Fall League and he has four home runs from 22 games. He believes the adjustments are working.
"We completely changed my swing," said Green.
Though he was .291 with the bat when he played for Double – A Midland this year, Green described the change as an improvement for the future.
"He thought I was too narrow with my stance, so we widened it. He thought I was static with my load. He said we're trying to generate power. ... It's easy to see that it's working so far."
With Steverson working hard on Green, the A’s could be eyeing a good spot for the prospect in the coming year.
"Hopefully I get a big league invite and do that again," he said. "But it's the same thing as the last two years, impress the coaches, get as much tutelage as possible, pick the brains of the vets, see what they do and just increase my game that much more.
If the power’s there, awesome."
If Green continues to do what he is doing at the moment, there will be a lot of improvement in the A’s attack, next season.
