Oakland Raiders’ Dennis Allen plans an aggressive form of offense and defence – NFL News Update
The New Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders, Dennis Allen plans to have an aggressive form of offense and defence. Talking to a news conference, the new coach said that at the offensive front, the team needed to be fast and aggressive along with being “explosive”
in the passing game.
Allen maintained that to be successful in the National Football League (NFL), a team needed to have an attacking style of defence that is able to contain the opponent team’s running and quarterback.
“We’re going to be an aggressive, attacking style of defence that’s built on stopping the run and getting after the quarterback” Allen said.
His views on special team were no different.
“On special teams, again, our coverage units are going to be fast and aggressive. We’ve got some of the best specialists in the game and our returners are going to be explosive.”
Allen is now faced with a team that is failing on the defence line and a list of injuries that led to the Raiders elimination from the playoffs.
The Raiders defence was at its lowest performance this season that failed to contain the opponent’s rushing offence and quarterback and Allen plans on changing that,
The Raiders defence has been conceding 5.1 yards per carry and allowed 31 touchdown passes this season, thereby becoming one of the four teams in the National Football League (NFL) to do so.
The Raiders committed 163 penalties for 1,358 yards this season to set the NFL record surpassing that earlier held by the Kansas City Chiefs since 1998.
Allen bears a defensive background and is a respected defence specialist. He proved his worth with the Denver Broncos as the Broncos under him improved their rankings with regards to points and yards allowed per game.
Now, Allen needs to do the same to the Raiders team. He is the first defensive coach hired by the Raiders after almost four decades. The last time the Raiders hired a defensive coach was back in 1969.
Allen ruled out radical changes in the team, saying the team did have a talented defence and players who could win a championship for the team.
Earlier, the former Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator was hired after a long search by the general manager, Reggie McKenzie after he had fired coach Hue Jackson. McKenzie had wanted to bring his own man in and someone who would make the Raiders team
into a winning organisation.
The 39-year-old coach has been signed for a four-year agreement by the Raiders.
