Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden ready for upcoming 2012-13 season - NFL News
Oakland Raiders just missed out on the playoffs last season as they lost to the San Diego Chargers in the final game of the season to end another disappointing campaign with an 8-8 record.
Oakland lost the game 38-26 and their playoff drought since 2002 continued.
What the franchise would not have done to have their best player running back, Darren McFadden injury free in that game.
McFadden missed the final nine games of the season with a Lisfranc injury and this was the main reason for the Raiders abortive challenge for the playoffs.
This year though the running back is looking to remain healthy throughout the season in 2012-13 and help the Raiders end their long running playoff drought.
Speaking to the Oakland Tribune after practice, McFadden said he felt good being back on the field.
"It felt good, being able to be out there on the field, with my teammates, running plays and feeling like myself,"
He continued.
"I was hoping to get to 1,800 rushing yards, but it didn't work out that way. I will keep pushing for it this year and hopefully get to those goals."
The running back was injured in week seven of the 2011-12 season in a game against the Kansas City Chiefs and would not return to play for the entire season.
About his injury problems McFadden said.
"It was one of those things where you just hated it. Week after week you're trying to get out there, and you can't get out there because your foot won't let you. One of those deals, you have to just keep going, keep pushing for it.”
Hopefully the highly talented running back will have an injury free season this year and can cement his place as one of the most explosive players in the league.
Before his injury, McFadden was unstoppable as he rushed for 614 yards from 113 attempts and scored four touchdowns.
With such huge numbers in the first seven games it is likely that the Raiders would have made the playoffs if the running back had not been injured.
He has a chance to try once again to reach his goal of a 1,800 yard season this year.
