Oakland Raiders boost RB position with arrival of Mike Goodson - NFL News
Oakland Raiders continue to operate in free agency as they look to plug holes in their roster before the start of the new 2012-13 season.
The Raiders this time moved for Carolina Panthers running back Mike Goodson as they look to strengthen what was a very underwhelming offence during the 2011-12 season.
Offensive tackle Bruce Campbell made the switch to Carolina to complete the trade.
Goodson was happy to sign up for a new team after it became apparent that opportunities in Carolina will be few and far between as the running back was fourth behind Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams and Mark Tolbert.
The running back talked to the media about his switch to the Raiders.
"Being behind DeAngelo and Stewart for a couple of years has been difficult just wanting to play and being a competitor. I wasn't looking to leave but anywhere that gave an opportunity, I'm definitely up for that."
Goodson had limited opportunities to play in 2011-12 after injuries and having tough competition in the roster kept him from getting games.
"I thought going in, with the way I performed, I'd definitely get an opportunity to play. Some things happened. I didn't get the opportunity I thought I should have. Then I got injured, and it really didn't go the way I wanted last year."
Raiders, general manager, Reggie McKenzie is facing trouble in plugging holes in the roster as Oakland do not get draft picks until the end of the third round.
McKenzie though is happy with the new addition and said that Goodson will make a great addition to the Raiders roster.
“He's very versatile, he has natural running skills, he's a great receiver out of the backfield, and he has kick-return ability.”
Goodson will need all of that if he wants to become a viable replacement to Michael Bush who left Oakland to join up with the Chicago Bears.
The Raiders ended the 2011-12 season with an 8-8 record as they struggled to score in offence. Oakland failed to make it to the playoff spots and lost out to the Tim Tebow led Denver Broncos in the chase for an American Football Conference (AFC) West championship.
