Oakland Raiders conclude voluntary veteran minicamp – NFL News
The Oakland Raiders concluded their three-day voluntary veteran minicamp on Thursday, April 19, 2012, and the three-day session was apparently productive for the team.
“Mini-camp was great,” said Raiders’ offensive tackle Jared Veldheer.
He added:
“All the team was able to get together with all the new pieces. I think we’re definitely building; you can see guys getting better at certain techniques and everybody working toward the goal we want to accomplish, which is to win a championship. So it’s
a great first step and looking forward to starting back again when we start up OTAs.”
The conclusion of the voluntary veteran minicamp will not affect the team’s ongoing offseason workout programme, which will continue for a relatively longer period of time before the start of training session and preseason.
The main focus of the minicamp was coaches telling player to keep their fundamentals right. Overall, the minicamp did not involve very aggressive workout, but the players got a good opportunity to understand and learn the training style of their coaches.
Raiders have been trying desperately hard to qualify for the playoffs, but they have not been able to play in the postseason since 2002 when they lost in the Super Bowl matchup against Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Last season, Raiders won and lost eight games in the regular season and could not end the drought. They are hoping to do it this time and the players hope that the minicamp will help them achieve their cause.
Raiders’ wide receiver, Louis Murphy, who was also present in the minicamp, said that it was a good three-day session. He expressed delight and excitement over meeting his teammates after a break and said that it was good for all the players to meet the
coaching staff and each other. He said:
“It was good to be back with the entire team, see some new faces, and good to get out with the coaches and get these new plays put in. It was a real good experience.”
Raiders are going to start their next regular season with a game against American Football Conference (AFC) West division rivals, San Diego Chargers, on September 10.
