Oakland Raiders considering Todd Bowles for head coach slot - NFL News Update
According to news surfacing from ESPN network, Oakland Raiders want to interview Todd Bowles for their vacant head coach position.
The general manager of Oakland Raiders, Reggie McKenzie, has sought to impose himself from the very beginning since he took charge and has succeeded in doing so.
He had the coach, Hue Jackson, sacked immediately and it very much highlighted the influence that he has over team owner, Mark Davis.
This means that if he desires to bring his own man in like Jackson said after being sacked, he will certainly have his own man.
With McKenzie’s eyes now fixed on Bowles, he turns out to be the possible successor to Jackson.
The interim coach of the Miami Dolphins, Todd Bowles, has proved his ground in the last three games he coached.
Dolphins under him went through an amazing change exhibiting a completely changed outlook and surprised everyone.
Bowles led his team by 2-1, proving his capability without any doubt, and also proving that replacing him with the fired Tony Sparano was the right decision.
Now when McKenzie wants to interview him, there are other solids reasons behind his choice other than just success, which appears to be the fact that Bowles is a defence specialist rather than just being a coach.
Bowles' defensive mind is exactly what attracted McKenzie towards him.
The Raiders' defence is the main reason why they were wiped out from playoff contention. It came out as the biggest reason for their downfall after the injuries that plagued the team.
Conceding an average of 5.0 yards per carry, Raiders landed up as being one of the four teams to do so, thus putting the entire team in a vulnerable position.
And that was not all.
Oakland Raiders came out this season, breaking the NFL record for most number of penalties committed, earlier held by the Kansas City Chiefs back in 1998.
They also forfeited the most number of yards in a season.
Had the defence fared well against the runs and passes, not allowing countless points to be scored, they would have been in the playoff picture for sure and not have ended 8-8.
These are exactly the problems that McKenzie desires to address and the reason why he would like to have Bowles in the team.
The news for Raiders from the other end is good as the Dolphins seem little interested in wanting to have Bowles continue as the head coach.
With his future prospect with the Dolphins looking bleak, Bowles is likely to accept an offer to coach Raiders, and it is reported that Oakland for sure would not miss out the opportunity to hire him.
