Oakland Raiders get 26-16 victory against Kansas City Chiefs – NFL Week 8 Recap
Oakland Raiders’ season is going through a transition as they got another victory after beating Kansas City Chiefs 26-16 in Week 8 game on Sunday, October 28, 2012, at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City.
It was Raiders’ (3-4) second consecutive victory after ending up on the losing side in four of their first five games of the season.
For Chiefs (1-6), their rain of misery continues as they got their fourth defeat in a row. Their offensive team finally managed to reach the end zone, but it came too late to affect the output of the game.
The overall performance by the Chiefs was a bit better as compared to their previous game. Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel admitted that his team would have to push hard to get their season on track. He said:
"It's unfortunate because I think the guys put a lot into it during the week. You just have to go forward and do the best you can."
Raiders always have a good time playing on road against Chiefs. This was their sixth win in a row at Arrowhead Stadium. Raiders head coach Dennis Allen was delighted to see his team getting its first win on road. Allen said:
"I thought he managed the game really well and had tremendous poise. We still have a lot of things to get cleaned up, but the good thing is that we are able to make those corrections after a win."
Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski scored on all four attempts for field goal and supported the offence at the time when the game was going neck and neck.
Quarterback Carson Palmer looked in stunning form as he finished the game with 14 of 28 for 209 yards and two touchdowns.
Running back Darren McFadden also played a major role in keeping the offence running. He carried the ball 29 times for 114 yards. According to The Associated Press, McFadden said:
"It took us a while to get it going, but once it finally got going, we finished the game out well. We feel like with our offense, you just have to stick with it."
Chiefs again gave away too many turnovers that have cost them big this season. They started the game with quarterback Brady Quinn, who left the field with reportedly a head injury in the first half.
Quinn was replaced by quarterback Matt Cassel, who covered 218 passing yards and scored a touchdown.
Raiders finished the first quarter 3-0, thanks to a field goal by Janikowski. This was followed by another field goal in the second quarter to take the score 6-0.
Then Chiefs levelled the score with two field goals by Ryan Succop. However, Palmer threw a touchdown pass in the final minute of the second quarter to finish the first half 13-6.
Palmer got his second touchdown of the game later in the third quarter to take the score to 23-9 after both teams scored a field goal each earlier in the quarter.
Raiders strengthened their lead with another field goal in the fourth quarter. Chiefs got a consolation touchdown later on to end the game 26-16.
