Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen: No decision yet on starting quarterback for Week 17 – NFL News
As starting quarterback Carson Palmer is out with a rib injury, Oakland Raiders will have to look at other options for their Week 17 tie against American Football Conference (AFC) rivals San Diego Chargers on Sunday, December 30, 2012.
However, Raiders head coach Dennis Allen announced on Monday, December 24, that the team has not yet decided as to who will be their starting quarterback for the season finale.
Raiders have option to start with either their seasoned backup quarterback Matt Leinart or the fans' favourite third-string quarterback Terrelle Pryor.
Even though Pryor has the support of fans who desperately want to see the skills of the young and talented Pryor, Allen insists that the player has not reached the quality of the game to start a National Football League (NFL) game. Allen
said:
"He's still a work in progress as far as that's concerned. I wouldn't expect a lot different out of any other young quarterback. .  .  His footwork in the passing game, going through his reads, going through his progressions."
Allen went on to say that Pryor has not yet taken the command over the team’s current offensive scheme.
Ever since being acquired by Raiders in the 2011 supplemental draft, Pryor has been a work under progress. The player was also reluctant to give his views about getting first start of his career. Pryor said:
"I'm not the coach. I definitely don't make decisions like that. I don't talk much. I just go out and do my job. Whatever God has for me, it's going to happen. If not, I'll be fine."
Even though Raiders are about to end their 10th season in a row with a losing record, they seem to be the only team out of the 17 franchises that got out of the playoff race after Week 16 that are not ready to try
their young talent on the professional field.
It is also highly likely that Pryor will never ever get a chance to start at Raiders if he does not get the opportunity on Sunday as it will mean that the team does believe Pryor is the answer to their problems.
