Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen gets backing of players – NFL News
After another dismal loss, Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen is again feeling the heat. However, his players have come upfront to support their first-year coach in bad times.
Only last week Raiders owner Mark Davis publicly expressed his displeasure about how things had been going on inside the camp. It could not have gone much worse for Allen as the team went through a diminishing 10-34 loss against Cincinnati Bengals in Week
12.
There seems to be a growing debate about whether Allen is losing control of the team. Defensive tackle Desmond Bryant said on the matter that the coach has the backing of the entire roster. Talking after the game, Allen said:
"We definitely believe in Coach Allen and the coaches, and we believe in their schemes. We just have to learn to be consistent in our execution. We all support Coach. We're all behind him. We just have to go out there and ball. Keep working."
Raiders have lost four games in a row and the defence has been utterly disappointing as it gave away a total of as many as 169 points.
Things certainly look to be going downwards for Allen, but the coach denies having many problems with the players as far as discipline is concerned except what happened in last game. Allen said:
“I don’t feel that at all. The play in the game, Lamarr [Houston]…the offensive tackle came up on Lamarr and that happened. We have to do a better job in that regard, but no, I feel like this team is believing in what we’re trying to get accomplished and
I believe this team is going to continue to fight.”
During the game against Bengals, defensive end Lamarr Houston got into a brawl with Bengals left tackle Andrew Whitworth.
Both players were ejected along with Raiders defensive tackle Tommy Kelly who went on the field despite not being activated and joined the fight.
Even though the players are showing their support for Allen, he has to come up with answers to all the team’s woes. Raiders have three home games in a row which gives the coach an opportunity to better the record.
