Oakland Raiders interview Denver Broncos’ Dennis Allen – NFL News Update
The ESPN Network has reported that the Oakland Raiders interviewed the defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos, Dennis Allen for their head coach slot.
Allen has been serving the Broncos as the defensive assistant for one year. He has formerly worked as an assistant in Atlanta and New Orleans.
The Raiders have been without a head coach after coach Hue Jackson was fired by the new general manager Reggie McKenzie on the first day of his job. It was clear that McKenzie desired to bring his own man in as he spoke of the need for a change in the team,
saying it was time for a new “era”.
McKenzie has had a long list of candidates drawn up for the next head coach.
The former Dolphins interim head coach Todd Bowles has been interviewed in this matter. Bowles has been quite impressive lately as he led his team, the Dolphins 2-1, lately and is in a very strong position being a defensive specialist. Since the Raiders
are troubled with a failing defence that was the main reason they were wiped out from the playoff race, Bowles could possibly turn out to be the one they opt for, even though McKenzie made it clear that they would not be driven by the offensive or defensive
requirements of the team in their search for a coach.
McKenzie also has four Green Bay Packers’ coaches, , Joe Philbin, Winston Moss, Dom Capers and Tom Clements lined up for the head coach slot after they became available following a last weekend’s loss.  McKenzie who intends to build the Raiders team on the
Packers model has a close eye on these coaches.
Recently, McKenzie also interviewed Denver Broncos’ offensive coordinator Mike McCoy but he appears more interested in Miami Dolphins.
The list of suitable candidates goes further on with McKenzie also planning to interview the offensive coordinator of Philadelphia Eagles Marty Mornhinweg.
Mike Tice, the offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears is another such candidate whom McKenzie desires to interview.
Tice has received promotion as the offensive coordinator of the Bears just recently where he was formerly working as the offensive line coach position.
However, the Raiders would need permission from the Bears to interview Tice which they have already requested.
Tice has been the head coach of Minnesota Vikings from 2001 to 2005 after which he worked with the Jacksonville Jaguars for three years and then joined the Bears in 2010.
The long search that McKenzie has dwelled into had led to a lot of speculation as to which coach would finally be hired. At present many coaches hold strong chances of being hired, so it is quite unclear at present as to which coach would finally end up
with the Raiders team.
