Oakland Raiders linebacker Aaron Curry’s future hangs in balance after returning to practice – NFL News
Oakland Raiders linebacker Aaron Curry finally returned to practice field after a break of five months, and practised with the team on Wednesday, October 17, 2012.
It was Curry’s first practice since May when he injured both of his knees during organised team activities (OTAs). The linebacker then missed Raiders’ offseason minicamp and preseason.
Curry started the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Before the start of the season, he went through a stem cell therapy to rehabilitate his sore knee.
Raiders will analyse performance of Curry on practice field before taking him out of the injured reserve (IR) list. Talking about Curry’s return, Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said:
"He looked good. He moved around well. I think the key is to see how he responds tomorrow and we'll continue to monitor him as we go through the week."
Allen has three weeks to decide Curry’s prospects. Raiders have the option of releasing the player, activating him or putting him on a season-ending injured reserve.
Curry is a versatile linebacker and has the skills to play at different positions.
Allen said that the team is not focusing on where they will play Curry in the starting line-up. He said:
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it. That's not a decision that we have to make right now. I think right now the biggest thing is to see where he's at physically, see how he responds to a couple of days of practice, how the knee responds to it. And
then we'll make that decision when we need to."
Curry was added by Raiders in the middle of the 2011 season from Seattle Seahawks for an exchange of seventh round pick in the 2012 draft and a possible fourth round pick in the 2013 draft.
The linebacker has played 11 games with Raiders in which he has got 32 tackles and recovered two fumbles. He was drafted by Seahawks as a fourth overall pick in 2009.
Curry’s future with Raiders will depend on how he performs during practice in coming days.
