Oakland Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain barred from taking part in practice session – NFL News
Oakland Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain is not likely to remain associated with the team for long, according to reports in the media. The player was barred from participating in the practice session on Thursday, November 29, 2012.
Raiders head coach Dennis Allen did not disclose the reasons behind keeping McClain away from the practice field. Taking to the reporters after the practice session, Allen said:
"There's going to be consequences to his actions and it's a team-related issue. I don't really want to get into the details of it. We asked him not to come to practice today."
McClain was reported to have an argument with the coach during the team’s practice session before being sent out of the practice facility on Wednesday.
He later posted derogatory comments about the team on his Facebook page and went on to say that he was no longer a Raider. In those comments, McClain said:
"Officially no longer an Oakland Raider!!... Well technically I am. But I'm mentally done. Just waiting on my papers... It's out of my hands right now. I'm gonna weigh my options. Looking forward to playing for an actual 'team.'”
McClain later deleted those messages. Allen clarified that the player has not been suspended and still remains a part of the 53-man roster. However, he did not give his views about McClain’s prospects with the team. Allen said:
"This is something that we've got to make a decision as an organization, and we're going to make sure that we make the right decision,"
It has been a turbulent professional career for McClain who was drafted as eighth overall pick by Raiders in 2010.
In 41 games played in the National Football League (NFL), McClain has got a mere 6.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one interception and no fumble recoveries.
Moreover, his career has been marked by issues outside the field. He has been convicted of various misdemeanours throughout this period including his involvement in a shooting incident.
McClain has been recently demoted to have a recent role on the field after the player failed to take the woeful running defence to the next level.
