Oakland Raiders linebacker Rolando McClain suspended for two games – NFL News
Oakland Raiders suspended their middle linebacker Rolando McClain for two games due to matters detrimental to the team on Friday, November 30, 2012.
Raiders head coach Dennis Allen made the announcement during the press conference. He previously said that McClain should face the consequence of his actions.
The team has not revealed the reasons behind the decision. McClain was barred from participating in the team’s practice session on Thursday.
Allen said that he had a discussion with general manager Reggie McKenzie, but clarified that he had the final say on this issue.
McKenzie was available to the media on Friday and discussed the issues regarding this matter. McKenzie said:
"It's going to be on him. I don't feel the need to approach him. So far, he is not apologetic. We wouldn't suspend him unless it was something major, including all that stuff off the field and on the field and all that. I think a two-game suspension pretty
much says it's an issue."
The general manager even went on to say that there were more than one incident that led to the suspension of McClain.
McClain was initially reported to have a heated debate with the coach during Wednesday’s practice session, after which he was asked to leave the practice field.
The player also updated his Facebook status claiming that he was no longer a Raider.
McClain will become available for the active roster on December 10. Till then the player will remain on suspended/injured reserve list.
However, looking at the circumstances, it looks highly unlikely that McClain will return to playing for Raiders. Talking about McClain’s chances of never playing in Raiders’ jersey again, McKenzie said:
"It's going to be a possibility because we suspended him. Now, it's always what's going to happen afterward. What's his approach afterward? I know what he texted, Facebooked or all that stuff ... what he said, that he's gone. I think I am the one that is
going to make that call, not him."
It has been an uncomfortable ride for both McClain and the Raiders ever since the player was drafted as an eighth overall pick in 2010.
With McClain never reaching the expectation of the team, it is likely that both parties will part ways in near future.
