Oakland Raiders performance till Week 7 – NFL Special Part 2
This is the second part of the Oakland Raiders’ performance review of the first seven weeks of the regular season.
After getting a much needed win in Week 3 to save their season from sinking, Raiders faced a tough task of going up in the division standings as they faced tough opponents in coming weeks.
Week 4: Denver Broncos
Raiders were hoping to go into bye week with 2-2 record as they faced Denver Broncos. However, Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning had other plans for his opponents as he took his team to a 37-6 victory.
Manning completed 30 out of 38 passes for 338 yards and scored three touchdowns. Broncos were in total control since the start of the game.
Raiders running back Darren McFadden gave another sluggish performance as he carried the ball 13 times for just 34 yards.
Quarterback Carson Palmer also had a tough day as he finished with 19 of 34 for 202 yards without scoring any touchdown.
The defence looked thin in absence of starting cornerbacks Shawntae Spencer and Ron Bartell.
Week 6: Atlanta Falcons
Fans were expecting a different output from Raiders after the bye week, it did happen though. However, Raiders hard work was not enough to give them a win as they got a heartbreaking 20-23 loss against in-form Atlanta Falcons.
Falcons got victory, thanks to a final-second field goal by their Matt Bryant. Raiders finished the first half with a 13-7 lead, but Falcons levelled the score in the third quarter with two field goals.
Raiders defence put up a good show as Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan was intercepted three times during the game. Ryan ended up with 24 of 37 for 249 yards and a touchdown.
McFadden gave a much better performance as compared to previous week. He got a two-yard run into the end zone with 40 seconds left on the clock to tie the game 20-20.
At that point, it looked as if the game was heading into overtime but Falcons’ late field goal changed all that.
Week 7: Jacksonville Jaguars
Raiders managed to grind out a win in a tightly contested 26-23 victory against Jacksonville Jaguars.
After getting a sorrow loss a week earlier, Raiders had fortunes turned in their favour as they scored the game-winning field goal from kicker Sebastian Janikowski in overtime.
Palmer ran for a touchdown and threw another touchdown pass to level the score and take the game to overtime. He completed 26 of 46 attempts for 298 passing yards.
Raiders managed to come back into the game after struggling in the first half. Jaguars were 17-6 in the first half, but Raiders got 17-6 in the second half to level the game 23-23.
