Oakland Raiders’ quarterback Terrelle Pryor waiting for the right opportunity – NFL News
The Oakland Raiders have Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart to serve at their quarterback position with the former being the favourite to earn the starting role, but their third-string quarterback, Terrelle Pryor, is not underestimating himself in presence of
the two veterans.
Pryor acknowledges that the other two quarterbacks have plenty of experience and talent, but that does not discourage him from competing for the starting role.
Pryor made his National Football League (NFL) debut last year, but he appeared only in one game without receiving much playing time.
In presence of Palmer and Leinart, it will become difficult for Pryor to get more playing time in the upcoming season as well, but he still does not consider himself as a backup and just waiting for the right opportunity.
According to Bay Area News Group, Pryor said:
"Carson is the starter and he's going to be the starter. But I don't put myself as I'm going to be backup.”
He added:
“I mean, I don't sit around saying, 'I want to be a backup, that's what I want to be.' That's not how I operate. That's not how I want to be. I'm going to work to play. And Carson's always played well and always will. Whenever the opportunity comes for me
to play, I'll play. But I'm not planning to be a backup. Get that correct."
Leinart has joined the team this offseason and his acquisition has further pushed Pryor down as he became the third option for the team after Leinart’s selection.
However, Pryor is not dejected by Leinart’s selection. While appreciating Leinart’s game skills, Pryor said that he understands this business well and that the teams always try to ensure the presence of good players in the squad.
Pryor also mentioned that this year’s offseason workout really helped him groom his skills. Due to the NFL lockout last year, he was unable to attend the offseason workout and after receiving the opportunity this time, he thinks that he will be able to focus
more on developing his skills.
Recently, Raiders’ quarterbacks coach, John DeFilippo, also backed Pryor for performing well in the upcoming season and said that he was impressed with the player’s work ethic and athleticism.
