Oakland Raiders reshuffle roster, put Jacoby Ford and Ron Bartell on injured reserve – NFL News
As expected, Oakland Raiders made some roster moves recently to facilitate fit players in place of injured ones.
On top of those was the announcement of putting wide receiver Jacoby Ford on the season-ending injured reserve (IR) list. Cornerback Ron Bartell was also added to the IR list.
Bartell will have a chance to return to the roster after Week 8. However, it is a massive setback for Ford who was hoping to play an important role for Raiders this season.
Ford got a foot injury while playing a preseason game against Arizona Cardinals and had to go through a surgery to return to fitness.
Last Week, Raiders head coach Dennis Allen indicated that Ford would likely remain out for the entire season. Allen said:
“We haven't done anything yet, but there's probably a strong possibility that he'll go to IR, It’s possible that it could take a long time.”
Ford got a similar type of injury last season which kept him away from the field for final six weeks.
Bartell is the only player that Raiders have chosen to be placed on injured reserve and has the option to return. The cornerback is suffering from a shoulder injury.
It is reported that Bartell’s injury will take at least four to six weeks to fully rehabilitate. However, he will not have to go through any surgical procedure.
In place of the two injured players, Raiders have added cornerback Coye Francies and long snapper Nick Guess on the roster out of the practice squad. Guess could be rushed on the field straightway if Jon Condo remains unavailable.
Raiders are currently very thin at various positions, especially at the wide receiving corps. Apart from wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey and Denarius Moore, there is not much experience available. Allen previously said:
“We've got NFL football players on our roster and we expect them to go out and play like NFL players. He went out and did a pretty good job last night against a pretty good group of receivers and a pretty good passing game.”
