Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden gets ankle injury in Week 9 game – NFL News
Oakland Raiders running game suffered a big blow in Week 9 as their running backs Darren McFadden and Mike Goodson got injured against Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, November 04, 2012.
McFadden is reported to have a high ankle sprain after getting injured in the latter part of the first half.
The running back carried the ball seven times for 17 rushing yards and looked in good touch before limping off the field with an injury in the second quarter. He was seen walking in the locker room alongside trainers later on.
It is still not clear how McFadden got the injury. He had an X-ray on his foot, reports of which came out negative. Giving his views about McFadden’s injury, head coach Dennis Allen said:
“The injury happened fairly early in the game, so there wasn’t a whole lot of opportunities for him. He did have a couple of nice runs early in the game, but obviously, he was not able to be as effective as we would like. Again, it’s execution. It’s all
of it. It’s blocking. It’s running. It’s the whole thing.”
McFadden was replaced by Goodson during the game. However, he also got an ankle injury in the final quarter and was unable to carry on further in the game.
The injuries are going to hurt Raiders’ running game, which is struggling to find consistency. Talking about these injuries after the game, Allen said:
“When you lose your top two runners, yeah, it limits you. As you saw, we had Marcel [Reece] in at the end of the game running some tailback plays in there. When we have injuries, it changes what you’re able to do.”
McFadden has a long history of having injury-related problems. In his four seasons in the league, McFadden has dropped 19 games due to injuries.
Goodson has looked good this season. He has been very effective in Raiders’ zone blocking scheme, but this injury could derail his good run of form.
If the two players fail to get fit before Week 10, Raiders will have to play with backup running back Taiwan Jones.
