Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden has high ankle sprain, might play in Week 10 – NFL News
Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden is diagnosed to have high ankle sprain. However, according to head coach Dennis Allen, the running back is not ruled out of Week 10 game against Baltimore Ravens to be played on Sunday, November 11, 2012.
During his Monday’s press conference, Allen said that McFadden went through an MRI and had X-rays and the results of both came out negative.
The running back got injured during the first half of Week 9 defeat against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McFadden’s premiere backup, Mike Goodson also got the same type of injury during the game and had an MRI scan later on Monday.
McFadden had just seven carries in that game before he got the ankle injury. He insisted to carry on playing, but was unable to absorb the pain and left the field. Talking about the injury, Allen said:
"Darren wanted to be back out there, so that wasn't a case where you risk any further injury. Darren is a competitor, he wanted to be back out there, so we put him back out there. Then came in at halftime, he just wasn't going to be able to do it, so we
kept him out the rest of the game."
Allen also pointed that the two injured players will be analysed throughout this week before making the final decision about their availability for the next game.
In case the two running backs remain unavailable for the game, Raiders would have to settle for using backup running back Taiwan Jones or fullback Marcel Reece.
Jones has carried the ball only once this season and has struggled in keeping the ball in hands. The Associated Press quoted Allen as saying:
"That's obviously something that he's got to improve on. He's got to make sure that he can protect the football and he's got to make sure that he understands what his assignments are. As we get more comfortable with those things, he'll earn more playing
time."
