Oakland Raiders running back Mike Goodson released from hospital – NFL News
Oakland Raiders running back Mike Goodson’s injury does not seem to be as severe as previously thought as he was released from the hospital on Tuesday evening.
Goodson had a terrible helmet-to-helmet collision and got a neck injury during the Raider’s practice session on Tuesday morning after which he was taken to the hospital.
After reaching the hospital, Goodson had MRI and CT scan, both of which came out negative. Raiders issued an official statement about this matter which said:
"The Raiders received encouraging news Tuesday night from doctors treating Mike Goodson, who left the practice field with a neck injury, with movement in his extremities."
Goodson was about to get the ball from quarterback Carson Palmer when he got the hit from linebacker Philip Wheeler.
Goodson laid face downward for nearly 15 minutes. Trainers and teammates came forward to help him. Shortly after, paramedics arrived and loaded him into the ambulance.
Wheeler himself was very surprised as well as depressed after the incident. Wheeler, who will be the starter for Raiders at linebacker, looked very tense throughout rest of the practice session.
The Associated Press quoted him as saying:
"I texted him already and told him that I'm praying for him, that I'm sorry and I didn't mean to do it. I thought he was going to get up. I didn't think he was that bad off until he said ... that he couldn't get up. That's when I knew
he was pretty bad. I'm just going to pray for him. I didn't mean to do it. I didn't mean to hurt him."
Many of Raiders’ players came out and expressed their grief about the incident. It included Taiwan Jones, Denarius Moore, Richard Seymour and Darren McFadden.
McFadden in his comments reiterated the fact that playing at such positions is always risky.
Goodson and Jones are competing with each other for the backup position behind the starter Mc Fadden.
Carolina Panthers drafted Goodson in the fourth round of the 2009 draft. Raiders acquired Goodson in March this year through a trade with Panthers for the exchange of tackle Bruce Campbell.
