Oakland Raiders running back Mike Goodson remains absent from training camp after injury – NFL News
Although medical reports of Oakland Raiders running back Mike Goodson has come out negative, it is still not known when he will be able to return to the field.
Goodson failed to participate in the practice session on Wednesday and still has plenty of soreness in his neck.
Raiders’ head coach Dennis Allen was relieved after hearing that Goodson was cleared and released from hospital. Allen said:
"We care about all of these guys. Nobody wants to see anybody get hurt, especially something as serious as a neck injury. The fact that everything came back fine was obviously very relieving to all of us."
Goodson had collided with linebacker Philip Wheeler in such a manner that the sound of the collision was heard even on the other side of the pitch. He went down on the field for about 15 minutes.
Later, paramedics arrived and put Goodson in an ambulance to take him to the hospital. There, he had CT scan and MRI; reports of both came negative.
Coach Allen previously said that he did not have a close look as to what happened during the collision. He did explain it on Wednesday, after watching the video clips.
It was previously thought that Goodson got a helmet-to-helmet collision. Yet Allen had other opinion, He said:
"It was a little bit of a freak deal. Mike kind of ducked a little bit. Philip kind of led with his shoulder a little bit and kind of lunged at him. It's things that happen in the game of football. It's an unfortunate occurrence. Fortunately,
Mike is fine and we move on from it."
Goodson went forward to catch the ball thrown by quarterback Carson Palmer when Wheeler got him down.
Wheeler himself was in a shock that Goodson got injured in such a way. Cornerback Ron Bartell also reiterated the fact that such injuries come as part of the game when you play at such positions.
Goodson is competing with Taiwan Jones for the backup spot for Darren McFadden. Jones himself is out with a strained hamstring.
In the absence of both of these players, Lonyae Miller will have a chance to start the preseason game against Dallas Cowboys.
