Oakland Raiders running back Mike Goodson still fighting pain as he returns to camp – NFL News
Oakland Raiders running back Mike Goodson returned to the field on Friday after suffering a neck injury a couple of days earlier.
Goodson had a light walk on the sidelines and was not involved in any rigorous workout. The Associated press quoted Goodson as saying:
"It's kind of like having a crick in your neck when you wake up in the morning or something like that. A little more intense than that, but that's pretty much it."
With Goodson’s injury not as severe as previously thought, Raiders hope he will return to the field fully fit as soon as possible.
Goodson did not give any specific date about his return. He will come on the field only after getting clearance from the doctors. He said:
"I'm starting to feel like myself again. As soon as they give me the green light to go I'm going to be ready to go."
Goodson had a light workout as he exercised by riding on an exercise bike. After that he sat with his fellow teammates and watched the rest of the practice session proceedings.
Earlier during training camp, Goodson got a hit from linebacker Philip Wheeler after which he fell on the ground and remained there for nearly 15 minutes before being put on the ambulance by paramedics and taken to the hospital.
Raiders’ camp had a sigh of relief when they learned that all the scans reports were negative.
Goodson said:
"Sitting in that bed, man, them telling me not to move and stuff is pretty difficult for an athlete. But once it came back and they said everything was negative it made me feel good."
Before getting injured, Goodson was about to get a tough competition from Taiwan Jones for the backup running back position.
With both Jones and Goodson injured, it will be Lonyae Miller’s turn to be a backup for starting running back Darren McFadden.
Goodson was traded by Raiders in March from Carolina Panthers in exchange of tackle Bruce Campbell.
