Oakland Raiders’ season review – a glance at the team’s another failure – NFL Special (Part IV)
Continued from part III...
At Green Bay
There were still four more games to play and Raiders were very much alive in the playoff contention.
However, the road was getting tougher as after getting a defeat against Miami Dolphins, Raiders travelled to play against the defending Super Bowl champions, Green Bay Packers, who were in exploding form.
Packers got two touchdowns in the first quarter and got two more with a field goal in the next. The halftime score settled at 31-0.
Packers got 13 points in the next quarter in which Raiders also got a touchdown.
In the final quarter, Raiders got nine points while Packers got a field goal. The final score settled at 46-16 in favour of Packers.
Against Detroit Lions
After getting two straight defeats, Raiders hosted Detroit Lions in a nail biter.
Both teams got a touchdown each in the first quarter. Raiders got 10 points in the second quarter while Lions managed only one touchdown.
After the scoreless third quarter, Raiders added 10 points in the first half of the final quarter and took a 13-point lead.
However, Lions scored two touchdowns within the final five minutes of the game to edge the Raiders. The final score settled at 28-27.
Raiders lost three games in a row for the first time in the season. Quarterback, Carson Palmer, said after the game:
"Very demoralising. We had chances to close them out and a chance to put them away there and just didn't make enough plays when it came down to it."
At Kansas City
With just two games left in the regular season for Raiders, they visited Kansas City to face the Chiefs.
Both teams struggled on offence and relied more on field goals rather than completing the playing drives after scoring touchdowns.
Raiders and Chiefs got a field goal each in the first quarter.
After the scoreless second quarter, Raiders got a touchdown in the third while Chiefs managed another field goal.
In the fourth quarter, Raiders got a field goal and Chiefs got a touchdown to tie the score.
The game was forced to overtime in which Raiders got a field goal to win the game. The final score settled at 16-13.
Against San Diego Chargers
It was the final game of the regular season and Raiders had to win if they wanted entry into the playoffs.
The final game saw plenty of scoring moves, but Chargers were the ones who extracted more benefits out of them.
Both teams scored a touchdown each in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Chargers got two touchdowns and a field goal while Raiders could only managed two field goals.
Raiders added two more field goals in the third quarter in which Chargers scored a touchdown.
Raiders and Chargers got a touchdown each in the final quarter as the final score, 38-26, settled in favour of Chargers.
Raiders’ defensive tackle, Richard Seymour, was clearly frustrated with the loss and said after the game:
"If you can't stop a team with everything on the line, you don't deserve to be a playoff team. We didn't get it done. So this one hurts. It stings for sure. It's disappointing. It's frustrating."
With this game Raiders’ playoff hopes also ended and they ended at third spot in the AFC West division with eight victories and eight defeats.
