Oakland Raiders’ season review – a glance at the team’s another failure – NFL Special (Part III)
Continued from part II...
At San Diego
After eight games, Raiders’ record was 4-4. Their next game was scheduled against San Diego Chargers.
Raiders had started to regroup and were resettling quite nicely.
Chargers got a field goal early in the first quarter, but Raiders grabbed a touchdown in the final minute of the quarter to get the lead.
Raiders added 10 more points in the second quarter without conceding any to increase the lead.
In the third quarter, Chargers got two touchdowns but Raiders also managed a touchdown.
The final quarter went goalless and the final score, 24-17, settled in favour of Raiders.
Quarterback, Carson Palmer, said after the game:
"We had a real good rhythm going. There were some great play calls at the right time. We still have some things to get better at, but it's just good to come into this environment and get a win."
At Minnesota
After defeating Chargers, Raiders played an away game against Minnesota Vikings.
Raiders were four points down after the first quarter, but they surged strongly in the second to startle the Vikings.
Raiders grabbed three touchdowns in the quarter without conceding any point and scored a field goal in the third quarter to get a 20-point lead.
In the final quarter, Vikings scored 14 points without giving away any, but were still six points behind Raiders.
The final score settled at 27-21.
Against Chicago Bears
Raiders won two games in a row and for the first time in the season it was looking as if they could get more.
They played their next game against Chicago Bears and won third straight after a close encounter.
Raiders got two field goals in the first quarter and added two more in the second quarter, in which Bears got a touchdown.
Raiders increased their lead by scoring two more field goals in the third quarter.
Bears managed to progress in the final quarter and scored two field goals and a touchdown, but Raiders also got a touchdown and won the game.
The final score settled at 25-20.
At Miami
It was the first time in the season that Raiders had won three straight games. A couple of more victories would have surely sealed a playoff spot for them, but that was not going to happen.
The three consecutive wins were followed by a disappointing performance from Raiders.
They travelled to play against Miami Dolphins and were really miserable on offence. Carson Palmer ended up completing 20 of his 41 attempted passes for 273 yards while throwing two touchdowns and one interception.
Dolphins got two field goals in the first quarter and a touchdown in the next. In the third quarter, Dolphins got three touchdowns.
Raiders failed to register even a single scoring move for the first three quarters. They got 14 points in the final quarter, but they were not enough to overcome the deficit completely.
The final score settled at 34-14.
Raiders’ coach, Hue Jackson, said after the game:
"We didn't play well. That's on me It's not about coming to the East, and it's not about anything that happened this week. It's my fault. I didn't get them ready.”
After 12 games, Raiders were 7-5.
