Oakland Raiders’ senior executive, John Herrera, bids farewell to the franchise, partially –NFL News
After serving Oakland Raiders for more than three decades in different capacities, the franchise’s senior executive, John Herrera, has decided to retire.
The franchise has also confirmed the news.
However, Herrera is not completely parting ways with the franchise where he started his career and different reports have suggested that he will work closely with the franchise’s owner, Mark Davis, on different special projects.
Herrera joined the franchise as a ball boy in 1963 when he was just 16 years old. He was serving as the senior executive for more than 25 years.
The departments he served while being with the Raiders include, scouting, public relations, training camp operations, community relations, player personnel, security and many others.
Herrera even spent one season as a member of the franchise’s coaching unit.
He has also worked for Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a short period of time and has served a Canadian Football League team, BC Lions as well.
In the statement, which confirmed Herrera’s retirement, he said that the decision was made after careful consideration of all the aspects.
He said:
“At this point in my career and after careful thought and consideration, I have decided to take a break.”
Herrera recalled the time he spent with the Raiders and said that it was unarguably the most memorable period of his life.
He thanked the franchise’s owner, his colleagues, players and the fans for being loyal to the club and said that he feels honoured to be the person who has worked on so many areas of the franchise.
He remarked:
“I’ve had a great run, 35 years over three tours of duty, and have been privileged to work in every area of the organisation. I’ve enjoyed the whole ride and cherish my relationships with the Davis family, players, coaches and front office staff.”
Herrera also said that the time he spent with the franchise was beyond his expectations and the franchise is just like a home to him.
He remarked:
“I have developed lifelong friendships with people that have come through the organization and my time with the Silver and Black has exceeded my wildest expectations.”
It has not been announced as to who would replace Herrera.
