Oakland Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey unable to remember his terrible hit – NFL News
Oakland Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey talked with the media on Friday, September 28, 2012, for the first time since he was injured after getting a hit in Week 3 game against Pittsburgh Steelers.
He revealed that although he has watched on television the horrendous hit he got from Steelers safety Ryan Mundy, he does not remember what he went through. According to the Associated Press, Heyward-Bey said:
"I don't remember any of it."
The wide receiver looked quite better, unlike Sunday, when was taken to the hospital after being carried off the field. Giving details about his current conditions, Heyward-Bey said:
"So far, I've been able to walk, talk and eat. Right now, I'm just trying to go through the process of trying to get everything right. I'm in tune to what's going on. I don't want to say I've been around for everything, but I've been in tune with what's
going on."
Heyward-Bey was attempting to catch a pass given by quarterback Carson Palmer near the end zone with hope of getting a touchdown. Right at that moment he got a hit to his chin from Mundy’s helmet and was knocked out.
He then spent 10 minutes remaining on the ground. He was released from the hospital later on Monday, September 24.
Heyward-Bey is doubtful for Raiders Week 4 game against Denver Broncos on Sunday, September 30. It looks almost impossible that he will be able to return.
The wide receiver is yet to return to practice field and start running. Raiders head coach Dennis Allen believes that Heyward-Bey is recovering earlier than expected. Allen said:
"Obviously, he's doubtful this week. The biggest determining factor is we want to make sure that he's fully recovered and ready to go before we put him out there on the field.”
Heyward-Bey returned this season after missing most of the 2011 season due to an injury. He did not get much playing time during the last 11 months, making it even more difficult for him to recover this time.
Raiders are very weak in the wide receiving corps, as their starting wide receiver Jacoby ford is also out with an injury. Moreover, rookie wide receiver Rod Streater got a neck injury during practice on Friday.
