Oakland Raiders wide receiver Jacoby Ford likely to be put on injured reserve list – NFL News
Wide receiver Jacoby Ford’s season looks to be over as Oakland Raiders have indicated that they will put the player on the injured reserve (IR) list.
Raiders head coach Dennis Allen told CNSSports.com on Thursday, September 13, 2012 that Ford will likely be put on the list. Allen said:
“We haven't done anything yet, but there's probably a strong possibility that he'll go to IR, It’s possible that it could take a long time.”
Ford injured his foot during a preseason game against Arizona Cardinals. He consulted with a specialist who advised him to have a surgery. The player underwent the suggested medical procedure on Tuesday, September 11.
Ford has a long record of foot injuries. He injured his foot during last season in Week 10 against San Diego Chargers. He missed a total of six games. Allen said:
"It's really basically the same injury that he had last year. When he re-injured it this season there was nothing new structurally different from where it was last year. After visiting with the foot specialist in Carolina, everybody thought that given a
little bit of time he could come back from it. After giving it some time and re-evaluating, everybody, the medical people, felt like that surgery was probably the best thing for him."
It is still uncertain whether Ford will be put on a short-term IR list, which will allow Raiders to add another player on the roster in place of the injured wide receiver.
However, it will take at least six weeks before Ford will be allowed to return to the roster.
On the other hand, if he is put on the season-long injured list, Raiders will have to acquire a free agent to replace Ford.
In absence of Ford, rookie wide receiver Rod Streater will get more playing time during this season, while Denarius Moore and Darrius Heyward-Bey will be the starters in the wide receiving corps.
Overall in his career, Ford has caught 44 catches and covered 749 passing yards. He has played 24 games in his two seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted by Raiders in the fourth round (108th overall pick) of the 2010 draft.
